DC Now Origins: Wonder Woman

It began with a meteor shower. The Planet Krypton had exploded and several of it's fragments were sent flying through space traveling in the hyperspace wake of Kal-El's escape rocket. Unprotected and unguided the pieces of Krypton that were sucked into hyperspace traveled through time as well as space.

A rather large fragment broke up over the Alantic Ocean and it fragments destroyed the first advanced humans to walk the Earth. Alantis had sunk, some of it's citizens being changed to survive the depths of the ocean, the mutations suited to undewater living but the differences in appearance led to many years of war under the sea. Some of the mutated animals became the stuff of myths, yet Alantis was not alone.

Themyscira a small island in the then great Atlantean Empire had been similary effected, every male died, but the women were granted imortality. The day of the strike a child was born as her mother perished, her name was Hippolyta. The woman of Themycira raised Hippolyta to be perfect, she was taught by the greatest teachers and scientist, schooled in war by their hunters and warriors. Centuries passed and Hippolyta became the paragon of Themyscira and was chosen to be queen because of all the Themyscirians she had not known a world of men and had only known the love of her many mothers.

Hippolyta was stronger and faster than the others and even at centuries old was a bit naive. When the offspring of other meteor children came to Themyscira, she welcomed him with open arms. Yet Heracles came with ulterior motives, he imprisoned the queen and became lord over her people. Heracles and his men dubbed the place Paradise, because the woman were eternally young and could not concieve children.

For years the women lived under his iron fist but eventually they freed themselves and with the help of one of their greatest scientist found a way to hide their land from the outside eyes. Never again would a man set foot on Themyscira as a reminder they kept the iron shackels around their hands and feet as reminders of their folly for trusting the outside world.

Two months after Heracles left, Hippolyta found out that she had one more thing that seperated her from her subjects, she was pregnant .
Word had reached Heracles that he had spawned a child with the queen and with the aid of his brother Ares snuck back on the island and stole an infant child with red hair. Hippolyta had given birth to twins, raven haired Diana and flame crowned Artemis, Heracles was unaware that she had twins and Hippolyta had taken Diana out of her crib to nurse her when Artemis was stolen. A small band of women was formed to bring the child back, but were never heard from again.

For centurie Themyscira would maintain it's isolation from the world, yet during WW2 and the invention of the Atomic Bomb followed by the Cold War and Nuclear testing out at sea, it was decided that they would send an agent out into the world of man. A contest was held and much to the dismay of her mother, Diana won and was to be the eyes and ears of Themyscira, living in the world of man.

Diana has super strength, speed and has mental abilities that allow her to fly and with the help of a special gold alloy only found on Themscira has limite telepathic abilities. She once carried a lasso made of the same material but after being tied up with it and used as a battering ram by Doomsday, she has since abandoned it, along with her Red, White and Blue costume.

In recent years Diana has quit her post as agent to the world of man and Artemis, her long long sister raised by the search party that was sent after her centuries ago has taken the position, but does not call herself Wonder Woman. Diana is currently ambassador to the undersea kingdom of Alantis in an attempt to reconnect with their shared heritage.
