Mikki : Far Away pt 1

  They say the Fae-la once had real wings that allowed us to soar the great forest, then man came.  At first man was curious and the Fae-la would watch them from the safety of the trees and laugh at the curious things man did.  Time passed and man could fly, not on their own, but in giant metal birds, man begat science.  It was this same science that caused the fall of man and is rumored to have taken the magic from the Fae-la.  Now we have rebuilt the world, free of the plague of man, but have done so in man's image.    Our wings are no longer natural, but much of the world is.  One man could consume in one day what most Fae-la couldn't do in a year.  Man hated nature, the Fae-la respect it.  Man was big, Fae-la are small, Man is gone and the Fae-la remain.  We developed new wings based on a design by man, the very oldest of us (more than 1000 revos) remember when we had real wings, like the insects.  The last of our kind to be born with wings was my grand matron and it was decided that she and her family would be the Fae-la's protectors, the only status among our kind, royals.

  I am Princess Mikki of the Fae-la.  It is only a title because the Fae-la need no laws or rulers, we each do our part and live in harmony with each other and the world around us.  Yet there are disputes from time to time and it is the job of the King or Queen to settle those disputes and for the past 400 revos, my father has done so and for my last 100 revos, I have been by his side.  As his oldest child, upon his death, the small portion of magic that is still left in the world goes from him to me.  We aren't the only peace keepers, but he is the only one with the magic.  My arm bands allow me to access a portion of that magic when he is far away.  Yet in the last 40 revos there has been no peace has been needed to keep and my days are spent in hours of training with my father until now.

 I remember the buzz that day, I thought it was a passing bee but when I looked up, it was something more and that is the day the peace of the Fae-la became a memory to me.
